Trofeo Rosso 2020 rules book

1. The event

The Trofeo Rosso is an amicable motorbike gathering, organised by volunteers, which will take place on the Val de Vienne racetrack on July 2020, the 18th and 19th. It is based on demonstrations and excludes any notion of competition or ranking. In keeping with this spirit, any timing of participants is strictly forbidden. The rally is open to motorbikes of Italian origin, whether road or sports, racing or registered, classic or modern, as well as side-cars, racing side-cars and sports mopeds. Origin is not restricted for these last two categories. Italian motorbikes should be understood to include machines using either an Italian bike part or an Italian engine (for example : Bimota with a Japanese engine, Laverda-Egli, Aermacchi-Rickman, etc.). The organizer reserves the right to accept non-Italian motorcycles for the purpose of conviviality. In addition, the event includes various activities in relation to Italian motorbikes. Access to the event is free for members of Italian motorcycle clubs and for those accompanying participants.

2. The Organiser

The Trofeo Rosso is organised by the non-profit organisation "Les Journées Italiennes" (under the French law of 1901) and is supported by various Italian motorcyble clubs. The organiser designates all persons appointed to organise the event. Anyone present at the event must follow the organiser's directives. The organiser may, at any time and without justification, exclude a participant or spectator whose attitude is not in line with the Trofeo Rosso spirit or whose motorbike is deemed to be dangerous; the organiser's decision in this will be final. The organiser may make any modifications to the organisation of the rally, including shortening, or even cancelling, all or part of the runs, in which case the organiser will bear no liability for either total or partial reimbursement.

3. Participants & enrollment

The organiser validates the full and complete applications and considering the limited number of available places, will not be required to justify any decision not to confirm an application. In the event of non-confirmation, the amount paid at the time of the application will not be cashed and the cheques will be destroyed. In the event of doubts on the part of the organiser before validating an application, a photo of the machine may be requested. The amount to be paid represents the expenses incurred for organisation of the Trofeo Rosso, without any added profit for the organiser. The participants are those that receive confirmation of their enrollment which becomes firm and non-refundable except in the event of the Trofeo Rosso being cancelled by the organiser. In this case refunds would be given to the participants prorata to the amounts paid, less any expenses already incurred by the organiser. The enrollment is nominative and non-transferable. Any modification not declared by the participant may result in his or her exclusion. In particular, for insurance registration purposes, a participant cannot be replaced by another person who is not registered for the event.

In case of cancellation in the 3 weeks preceding the Trofeo Rosso, the commitment will be returned but a sum of 10 €, corresponding to the costs already incurred, will be deducted from this refund. However, no refund will be made in case of cancellation from July 12, 2019 or in case of absence if the organization has not been notified.

With confirmation by the organiser, within a single enrollment, a participant might use several machines in the same run. Each machine must be presented to the technical inspection. Each participant will be given a unique number of file printed on a single number plate handed out by the organiser, it will be visibly affixed to the front of each machine.

4. Runs according to machines and experience

For the sake of safety, the track is open for sessions of approximately 20 minutes, with a distribution in runs according to machine type and participant riding level. The organiser places the participants in the various runs according to the information requested on the application form. Despite this distribution, all participants of a single run do not all have the same level of experience. The participants must take these differences into account. If at the end of a run, a participant wants to change runs, he or she must obtain prior approval from the organiser by undergoing another administrative inspection. The following runs are proposed :
  1. RAGAZZA: series for women pilots with possibility of initiation by the organization; 3 runs. All brands of motorcycles are accepted but the priority will be given to Italian motorcycles.
  2. MONO: series dedicated to mono-cylinders from 50 to 500 cc of all origins. Some twins motorcycles such as the Morini 3 ½ are allowed. All levels of experience on the track.
  3. PIANO: classic bikes above 500cc, low to medium track experience.
  4. MEZZO: modern bikes above 250cc, low track experience or discovery of the track.
  5. SOPRANO: modern bikes above 250cc, medium track experience.
  6. TENOR: classic above 500cc, good track experience.
  7. ALTO: modern above 250 cc, good track experience.
  8. DUETTO: track and race side-cars of all origins and periods.
  9. INFERNO: 200 meters starting arrested open to all registered drivers.
  10. ZORGA : series dedicated to the organisers of the Trofeo Rosso.

'Classic motorcycles' refers to all machines with narrow wheels and carburettors. Belt-driven Ducatis of the Pantah generation, due to their performances, will be the exception to this rule as they are considered as modern bikes. Passengers are forbidden on the bikes and a single passenger, registered beforehand, is allowed on DUETTO runs.

5. Compulsory protective clothing

Pilots and passengers will be equipped with leather boots and gloves, leather jacket and trousers or all-in-one suit, and approved full-face crash helmet. Back protection is compulsory in all runs.
The cameras GOPRO kind are prohibited on helmets.

6. Insurance

6.1 Organisation Civil Liability Insurance
In accordance with the legal requirements of the decrees of 10-18-1955 and 12-23-1958 and the orders of 12-01-1959 and 02-17-1969, the organiser hereby declares that an Organisation Civil Liability (OCL) insurance policy has been subscribed in order to guarantee the financial consequences or civil liability which may be the responsibility of the organiser and the participants due to physical injury or damage to property inflicted on spectators, third parties or the participants themselves, in case of accident, fire or explosion occurring during the event.

Risks Insurance for Associations is subscribed to guarantee the persons appointed for the organisation, including the quartermasters responsible for safety during the runs.

Reminder: insurance guarantees do not apply to persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The organiser is not liable or responsible for damages or theft occurring in relation to the property of participants and those accompanying participants, exhibitors, spectators and all other persons present within the racetrack grounds, for the entire duration of the event.
6.2 Participant Civil Liability Insurance
As part of the event, each motorcycle or sidecar registrant is insured through the OCL. So you need to clearly identify the serial number of your machine. This serial number will be checked when passing technical inspection, make sure it is fully apparent.

It is recalled the legal obligation: "All land motor vehicle must be insured for Civil Liability". In order to continue the process of accountability of the pilots to ensure themselves, the Organizer undertakes to transmit to its Insurer the information concerning the pilot and his machine, in particular his CL number in order to streamline the procedures in the event of a claim.

6.3 Death/Disability Insurance
The cost of basic enrolment does not include Death/Disability Insurance.
In the event of an accident, your medical costs will be borne by your mandatory health scheme and your additional health benefit scheme. Check the actual conditions of your cover for 'High-risk Sports' and if necessary, do not hesitate to take out additional 'Personal Accident' insurance suitable for this type of activity.

As an option, you can choose between the following Individual Accident insurances:

  • Basic PAI: Personal Accident Insurance with capital for accidental death: € 35,000. Capital in case of permanent total disability: 90,000 €; in case of permanent partial disability: € 90,000 with relative excess of 10%.
  • Extended PAI: same as Basic PAI plus daily allowance of 25€ after 30 days and during maximum 365 days.

We strongly suggest that you take out one of these Personal Accident Insurance. It will not be possible to modify the list sent to the insurance company once on site.

The machines are presented with all the points below having been carried out and visible for the organiser (lower fairing taken down on bikes and shell removed on race side-cars): The organiser will place a plastic ring around the fork of any machine deemed approved. No complaints will be accepted in this respect. Machines not approved will not be permitted to enter the track. Non-compliant machines will not be allowed to enter the track. The refusal of a machine during the technical control can not justify the reimbursement of the commitment. In case of stoppage on the circuit, implementing the service of breakdown, the bracelet of the technical control will be withdrawn whatever the origin of the stop. To resume the track, the machine must be presented again to the technical controllers to justify a healthy repair and in accordance with the regulations.

8.3.2. Protections
If the primary transmission is exposed, it must be equipped with a chain guard as a safety measure. This chain guard shall be so designed that under no circumstances will the pilot or passenger accidentally come into contact with the chain or sprockets. A chain guard is required if the secondary transmission is not protected by the fairing. Vehicles must have strong and effective protection between the pilot and the engine.
8.3.3. Cutout
At least one circuit breaker must be installed. l is actuated by means of a non-elastic wire with a maximum length of 1 m and connected to the pilot. The circuit breakers must interrupt the primary ignition circuit and the fuel pumps.
8.3.4. Safety braking
Particular attention should be paid to the connections of the oil and gas lines. Pipes with crimped or screwed connections (aviation hose) will be preferred. In the absence of aviation hose, the Serflex will be in perfect condition and doubled.
8.3.5. Recuperators
A recovery jar of all breather and a minimum capacity of 1 liter must be installed on bassets equipped with 4-stroke engine and without a permanent recycling system.

9. Noise

The noise level on the machines is limited to 102 décibels, in respect of track rules but also in order to ensure repeat events in future. For the tranquillity of all involved, engines may not be started until 8.00am or after 8.00pm.

10. Rider briefing

Saturday morning, the briefing for the riders is mandatory ; this is to present the main safety regulations as well as a few particular features of the Trofeo Rosso. The presence of all riders is therefore essential in order to best ensure the safety of all participants. Stickers will be given out at the briefing session; without these stickers, it will not be possible to gain access to the track.

11. Access to the track

Access to the track is opened from 8h30 to 12h35 and 14h00 to 18h45. Access is forbidden to participants under the influence of alcohol or drugs (random tests will be carried out), to accompanying persons, to spectators and to tow vehicles which are not part of the organisation. Access to the track occurs after passing the pre-grid. The organiser opens the pre-grid 10 minutes before the start of each run.
Access to the track is only permitted under the following conditions:
  • Pilot with the plastic ring over during the administrative checks;
  • Helmet Sticker justifying the presence at the briefing;
  • Motorcycles equipped with the plastic ring of the technical control;
  • Plate number given to the administrative checks.

The pre-grid is opened to participants and machines that have passed the initial inspections. Each subsequent pre-grid passage validates admission of the correct persons and machines to the track for the next run. Machines which have been formerly approved, but in deteriorated condition regarding to safety or which have crashed will be rejected and will need to pass an additional technical inspection. At the beginning of each run, the participants ride one reconnaissance lap behind a pilot vehicle. It is forbidden to overtake it. This vehicle leaves the track after the first lap.

12. Track signage and indications

Signage is set up by FFM-licensed quartermasters, placed at the edge of the track. Participants must respect all signage in the form of flags used by the quartermasters. For the duration of their assignment, the quartermasters are part of the team set up by the organiser. Six types of flag are used:

  1. Green: passage authorised from pre-grid to track
  2. Italian checkerboard: end of the run, participants leave the track after the current lap
  3. Yellow: danger, slow down and do not overtake
  4. Yellow with vertical red stripes: grip is changing
  5. Black with orange circle and a rider is pointed out: this rider stops immediately and leaves the track in order to be secured
  6. Red (or red light):
    • Immediate interruption of the run, return to the pit at reduced pace, without overtaking
    • Pre-grid to track passage forbidden

Failure to respect signage is a motive for immediate and permanent exclusion for the duration of the event.

13. Pit and track grounds

Participant camping is authorised around the pit grounds, subject to access roads and pathways being left clear. After being unloaded, 4-wheel vehicles belonging to accompanying persons must be taken out and parked on the car parks of the pit. All persons present on the pit must respect the signage. Movement on the pit and at the pre-grid should be kept to a low speed (max 20 km/h). Burns and wheelies, access to the track and stands to under-16s, rollerblades and scooters are forbidden, as is the storage of fuel in the stands. It is not permitted to use mini-motorbikes or similar vehicles within the track grounds. In the event that they are found to have been used, the organiser reserves the right to confiscate any bike or similar vehicle involved. The tarmacked surface must be left free of any deterioration (no stakes, etc.) as must the fences (do not suspend heavy objects on them, etc...). Camp spots are to be left clean at the end of the event; bin bags are provided for this purpose. It is forbidden to walk dogs within the track grounds, even those held on a leash.

14. Health & medical team

The participants declare that to the best of their knowledge they do not suffer from any illness or disability that may compromise the safety of any person at the event. The organiser will set up a team of specialised doctors and nurses during track opening hours. The track medical HQ and rescue vehicles are made available to this team. This setup is an integral part of the event. The team is to be allowed all necessary freedom of movement and access to carry out their duties, by all present at the event.

15. Using datas and images, advertising and commercial activity

The organization may transmit data provided by participants in accordance with the law of privacy and only for non-commercial purposes.

Any shooting of images for commercial or promotional purposes is subject to the organiser's authorisation. Participants accept that such images may be used by the organiser or any authorised third party. The organiser may enter into business agreements with its own choice of partners and display related advertising wherever the organiser deems best. Any commercial activity not authorised by the organiser before the event is forbidden within the track grounds and access roads. Any advertising for tobacco or alcohol brands on the participants’ clothing or their machines is forbidden, except in the case of proven previous history of such advertising.

16. Rules

Event rules may be modified without notice. Signature of the application form implies complete acceptance of these rules and those of the Val de Vienne racetrack. Consequently failure to respect the rules may lead to exclusion of the machine and/or the participant, in which case no refund will be given on registration costs, the organiser being sole judge of its decisions, which shall be final.
